Have you ever experienced a lack of control and felt panicked? It’s a common feeling, but often we misplace our worries. Control exists on two levels – macro and micro. Macroeconomics deals with the economy of countries, while microeconomics deals with households. Even if I’m not wealthy and have to work, I still have control over small things like how I set up my office, what I drink (coffee), and the temperature. On the other hand, if I lose control over these small things, I may gain control over larger decisions, like choosing whether or not to interact with a particular person or work at particular job. Interestingly, losing control on both levels can sometimes lead to a sense of peace and less distress than losing control on one level alone. Perhaps, that’s why I feel calm in the dentist’s chair.
Coffee Note: Coffee beans are naturally green. They turn brown and develop their characteristic flavor and aroma during the roasting process
